Nelson Symonds - Getting Personal

Nelson Symonds - Getting Personal

I enjoy listening to jazz music and really enjoy the guitar work of Wes Montgomery. I saw an interview once where Mr. Montgomery praised a local Montreal player by the name of Nelson Symonds. Looking into the work of Nelson Symonds then revealed he was born in Nova Scotia, Hammonds Plains to be exact, and went on to become a true legend of the Montreal jazz scene, known as a seriously talented guitarist and a musician’s musician.

He didn’t leave behind a massive record catalog, which makes Getting Personal feel like an extra special snapshot of his vibe.

Released in 1992, this Nelson Symonds Quartet record is all about the guitar. His playing is warm, expressive and full of personality, and it is well worth a listen.

Don’t just take my word for it. Take the various other jazz legends who appreciated his work.
